News & Events

Grand Canyon Tour: From July 6 – 15, 2010, I’ll be leading a tour of the North Rim. Easy hiking and walking, beautiful lodge, lots of music. This trip is full, but for information on July 2011’s trip contact: blewis@williams.edu.

Dreaming on Location: I'm terribly excited about the release of my poetry book "Dreaming on Location." You can purchase a copy for $10 & shipping here.

School Residency: I can't tell you how much fun I'm having doing these Songwriting Residencies. This past year, I was invited to teach at Thacher School in Ojai, CA, Chewonki in Wiscasset, ME, CATA in Berkshire County, Vermont Arts Exchange in Bennington, VT, Lincoln Sudbury High School in Lincoln, MA, Mt Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, MA, Mt Anthony High School in Bennington, VT, MCLA in North Adams MA, etc. Here's a few quotes from my pals at Thacher School in Ojai, CA:

Freshman Casey Mulchay was, like many, encouraged and inspired: "Ms. Lewis helped me have more confidence. She taught me new ways to come up with ideas for my songs." Same for Sam Meyer, a senior, who was new to the art: "I LOVED having Ms Lewis here -- because of her, I wrote my first song and was able to get some really constructive feedback on my style and lyrics. She is a great songwriter." The value for senior Laura Ammons in her several interchanges with Bernice lay in the open-minded guidance the artist-teacher offered: "Bernice was an inspiration and a joy in helping us to find our own artistic voices and exploring song writing. She was incredibly friendly and willing, and I think I made more of a friend than just an acquaintance." Director of Music Greg Haggard appreciated Bernice's unqualified eagerness to work one-on-one with Thacher students. As important, he said, "Her techniques in the workshops helped them produce results within a fairly short time-actual progress toward a complete song. She is quite an amazing teacher." And her own songs? "They are wonderful, demonstrative of clear lyrical finesse."

Interview: Folk DK Mark Michealis has posted an interview we did this spring on WGDR, a free-format community radio station from the campus of Goddard College in Vermont.

Songwriting at Williams College: The songs from this year's crop of emerging songwriters from Williams College: Williams College Singer Songwriters web site. Kudos to Dave Senft of Darlingside for creating and maintaining this amazing site!

Archives: I was offered the honor of having my work archived at the Southwest Collection at Texas Technical University in Lubbock. I have always felt fortunate to be able to tour my music in Texas, a state that was takes their love of music seriously. I love to think about my writings and recordings living on in the wild west.

TV and Film: I recently signed a publishing deal with Shadow Mountain Music in Nashville. They are specifically looking to place my songs with TV and film.

Endorsements: I am so grateful for the continued support of Elixir Strings, and thrilled with their performance on stage and in studio. They are coated with a moisture resistant substance and they seem to last forever. For those of you who play guitar, they are well worth the cost. This will be my 10th year as a sponsored artist with Elixir. I travel and perform with a Taylor 712 and I am grateful to Taylor Guitars for a decade of support as an endorsed artist.
